History

In 2004 Nonius founders took part in Concurso de Ideias da Agência de Inovação with the WirelessGEST project, which has been selected as one of the top 30 business ideas. After that and 9 months of start-up preparations, Nonius initiates its activity.

In March 2005 the Nonius Business Project was presented on the InvestEBTec Forum promoted by the Agência da Inovação (The Innovation Agency), attracting the attention of many business venture capital companies. This interest originated negotiations with Beta, Sociedade de Capital de Risco S.A., which in July decides to buy 33% of Nonius. This sets a starting point for product and solution development process.

The beginning of 2007 brought a definition of the Nonius Development and Expansion Plan, which has been completed successfully and resulted in a growth of the company that has been observed at all levels. Having in mind new project development, growth and internationalization of the company a second round of financing has been provided in part by initial investors and introducing a new investor the FSCR-IAPMEI represented by PME Investimentos. As a result of this procedure Nonius becomes a Public Limited Company.

2008 was a year of consolidation in the predicted growth of the development plan, in which Nonius confirmed to be one of the most important technological SMIs in Portugal.

The Development and Expansion plan for Nonius included the commence of company internationalization. This process was initiated in the last trimester of 2007, implying 2008 for new market research, process refining and strategy adaptation. Although this was the first year of Nonius presence at foreign markets, we achieved an 11% of total sales volume from this source.

In the same year, Nonius opens a branch office in São João de Madeira, which focuses on fabrication, testing, verification and quality control. The process implemented there is fundamental to guarantee that the products that are currently being sold in ten countries are the best possible quality and comply with or overcome client expectations.

The 2009, was a year of slower growth of the national market revenues and the time to consider international market strategy consolidation, more specifically the creation of commercial channels at the strategic markets. Nonius created resale business channels as well as regional business development and technical support offices in Germany, United Kingdom, Holland, France, Kenya and India, currently negotiating other similar process in other countries that we consider strategic for the development plan.

Highlights

  • New WGServer Appliances: WGS200 and WGS5000 Nonius launched two different hardware platforms that differ on the performance and functionalities available: WGS200 and WGS5000.
  • Nonius at CeBIT 2010 Nonius participated for the 3rd consecutive time in CeBIT - Hannover. Strongly committed to establishing itself in the Hospitality and Healthcare markets, Nonius presented the new version of NiVo, the in-room entertainment system. NiVo has now more features which makes this product a worldwide prime example for the high-end customers. This presence at CeBIT reinforces Nonius’ international strategy and  its aims to expand the integrators network worldwide through the VAI (Value Added Integrator) model. This model offers a set of special conditions and benefits, such as products evaluation, technical and sales trainings, discounts, marketing materials and technical and sales support.
  • Nonius is PME Líder (SME Leader) Nonius has received from IAPMEI – Economy and Innovation Ministry the distinction of PME Líder (SME Leader). This status is a public recognition of Nonius’ performance that, when associated with a risk profile, contributes to the dynamics of the national economy. Nonius is very proud to belong to this restrict group of companies that are differentiated with this status by IAPMEI.
